Mixed bag of short stories of alternate history

The highlights for me were the first and last stories, set in 19th century United States of Atlantis (the last is a faux Sherlock Holmes mystery); and The Horse of Bronze, set about 3,000 years ago and narrated by a centaur. The latter tale is drenched with colonialist ideology but is too creative for me to dismiss completely.
Turtledove has ideas. The analogies are clever. The humor is mediocre.
