Tempting to say it's Haruki Murakami without the obsession with teenage girls' breasts. For good and bad. That's a bit unfair though, so probably more thoughts to come. Definitely a good companion piece to Soseki's The Miner, if ultimately not quite as stark/as dark, and Pynchon's Bleeding Edge, if ultimately more focused in its sprawl.
