Hur hanterar man något sådant?

Mazzucato refines the argument from The Value of Everything, with less economic theory and more arguments for why and how the current economic system can and needs to be reformed like, now. Using the Apollo project as a recurring example of how it can be done is a great move even if it brings up a few questions. In the end it's more of a call to action than a how-to manual - the job needed to do this is SO humongous, and she wisely doesn't give too much air to the arguments some people will inevitably make, and in the end the book feels both inspiring, exciting and scary af.

Is it wrong that this story is actually starting to seem like a story?

Possibly the most Canadian book I've ever read. Including the impossibility of talking about family trauma politely.

If there's one thing I really miss in this inspiring, energetic, fun book on the history of women on two wheels it's... the everyday. Ross has researched, where still possible interviewed, and given due to pioneers on everything from the unthinkable rebellion of even getting on a bike (whether in 1890s London or 2000s Afghanistan) to the extreme feats of long-distance explorers and racers, but where are the people who simply bike for the hell of it, or to get to work, or to go on holiday, or to be able to visit friends without depending on others? For all that this makes me want to both get back on the saddle myself (damn busted foot) and help others get on there, for all that I'm filled with admiration of those women who had to fight both to be allowed to do what they did (or not give a shit …

That's a small quibble. It's a great book, one that captures both the joy of the wind in your hair and the frustration of hot air blown to stop it.

Pro: Nice cold war-era depiction of Iceland, barely out of the shadow of WWII and colonialism's poverty, thrown into conflicts much bigger than both the population in general or the protagonists in particular understand.
Con: Half-spoken characterisations that may depend on not having read previous/later books in the series but just feel coy on their own. A mystery that in the end doesn't really grab.

The old question of how artificial intelligence can work and whether human creations are worth as much as humans turned on its head - whether intelligence can be anything but artificial, and whether human beings are worth anything to other humans. Not the first work to take that angle, and perhaps not the ultimate take on it either, but I do like the way Gailey's characters wrestle with it only to trap themselves even further.
